Impact Investing for the Rest of Us

Events all week
Impact investing is no longer reserved for institutions or high-net-worth individuals—it’s for everyone. At Impact Investing for the Rest of Us, we’ll explore how everyday people can put their money to work for the planet and society, shaping a future that balances financial returns with real-world impact. As part of Sydney Climate Action Week 2025, this event will bring together thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors committed to sustainable finance. Our expert panel features Dimity Podger from Regen Labs, an organization pioneering regenerative finance and ethical investment frameworks, and Matt Vitale from Birchal, Australia’s leading equity crowdfunding platform enabling everyday Australians to invest in impact-driven startups. The discussion will cover: Demystifying Impact Investing: What it means, why it matters, and how it differs from traditional investing. Accessible Investment Pathways: Exploring platforms and mechanisms—like equity crowdfunding and regenerative finance—that allow individuals to invest in companies tackling climate and social challenges. Opportunities in the Australian Market: How local startups and enterprises are leveraging impact investments to drive climate solutions. Overcoming Barriers: Common challenges in ethical investing and strategies to navigate them. Following the panel, there will be a Q&A session where attendees can ask direct questions to our speakers. The event will conclude with a networking session, allowing participants to connect with fellow investors, entrepreneurs, and finance professionals passionate about driving change. This event is designed for impact-conscious individuals, social entrepreneurs, and those curious about leveraging finance for sustainability. Whether you’re new to investing or looking to deepen your knowledge, Impact Investing for the Rest of Us offers practical insights to help you take action. Join us for an evening of learning, discussion, and community-building as we reimagine the role of finance in addressing the climate crisis. Venue details will be announced soon—stay tuned!

For health’s sake - cycling away from plastic!

Events all week
The problem: Plastic pollution poses a serious threat to human, environmental and planetary health at every stage of its life cycle. Plastics often contain thousands of hazardous additives—such as carcinogens, neurotoxicants, and endocrine disruptors—that can leach from products and waste, persisting in the environment and endangering patients, communities, workers, and ecosystems. Communities, health workers and health systems already face the alarming impacts of plastics production and pollution. The worst impacts of plastics’ production and disposal are not equally distributed, but instead are concentrated in the most vulnerable and under-resourced communities. The healthcare sector is a major consumer of plastics and generates significant plastic waste at each stage of the life cycle. The sector is estimated to be responsible for over 4% of global emissions, with as much as 71% of these emissions derived from making, transporting, using and disposing of products for health care - including fossil fuel derived products like plastics. In Australia, healthcares share of total national emissions is higher at approximately 7%. Although a major consumer of plastics, the healthcare sector is playing a significant role in leading efforts to eliminate plastic pollution. But change cannot occur solely within the health system. Reform is needed at all stages of the life cycle, to abate scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. This is why we want to bring together voices from across the life cycle to discuss what a practical, just transition away from plastics in health and for health looks like and inspire collaborative action. Event rundown: - Interactive demonstration of the impact of plastics in healthcare - Greeting / networking - Interactive panel - Call to action - Post-event networking session
