The keynote address and panel will explore the Women’s Climate Congress (WCC) vision of nurturing life and caring for the Earth as central to governance. Over the past five years, WCC has engaged thousands of women to address climate grief, envision sustainable futures, and drive policy change through its 11-point Charter for Change. The discussion will highlight the urgent need for gender-balanced, inclusive governance to address systemic barriers rooted in patriarchal structures and the growing role of women-led organisations in climate action. Speakers will examine women’s disproportionate vulnerability to climate impacts, the transformative potential of women in leadership, and the collaborative policymaking required for meaningful change. The session will also consider opportunities such as an Australian-Pacific Presidency at COP31, inspiring participants to see how collective women-led efforts can reshape governance and accelerate a just, sustainable future for all.

An interactive keynote on the main topic and theme of connecting with nature, primarily through bird watching. As experienced and passionate bird watchers ourselves we will discuss the interesting world of birds, the important role birds play in our environment and the profound impacts they have on our planet, ecosystems and explore their unique lessons they bring for humanity. We will then explore the value of connecting nature with the audience, from significant mental health and wellbeing benefits, to learning about fascinating species in your backyard, local parks and more. Following this, some time will be spent on bird watching as an activity and hobby itself, providing an overview, useful tips and how to get started, nearby hotspots in Sydney and local community groups. Lastly, we will share a demo of our mobile bird watching application which is currently available in NZ and has an Australian version in development as of January 2025 and address what people can do to take action to protect the future of our birds (a critical backbone of ecosystems).
